Literary Awards

AJL offers three annual literary prizes. Winning authors and illustrators receive accolades and honoraria at the Association’s annual convention. AJL’s awards draw attention to the best in Jewish literature and scholarship each year, encouraging publication and purchase of high-quality Jewish writing.

The Sydney Taylor Book Award for children’s and teen literature

The Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award for unpublished manuscripts targeting ages 8-11

The Judaica Reference & Bibliography Awards for academic scholarship

Membership Awards

AJL offers three awards for members and prospective members. Winners receive accolades and/or stipends at the Association’s annual convention. These awards foster recognition and pride within the field of Judaica librarianship and encourage active participation in the profession.

The Fanny Goldstein Merit Award is given in recognition of loyal and ongoing contributions to the Association and to the profession of Jewish librarianship.

The Life Membership Award is given for outstanding leadership and professional contributions to the Association and to the profession of Jewish librarianship.

The Student Scholarship offers $1000 to a student attending or planning to attend a graduate school of library and information science who demonstrates the potential for pursuing a career in Judaica librarianship.
