The AJL Judaica Reference Award, funded by Dr. Greta Silver of New
York City, was established to encourage the publication of outstanding
Judaica reference books. The AJL Judaica Bibliography Award, funded by Eric Chaim Kline of Los
Angeles, was established to encourage the publication of outstanding
Judaica bibliographies.
Throughout most of a year, the chair of the Reference and
Bibliography Awards Committee identifies new publications that may be
suitable for consideration and writes to the publisher to request them.
Publishers may also submit books to the committee directly. Publishers
who wish to submit books or to inquire about the award should contact the
Reference and Bibliography Awards Committee chair, Daniel Scheide.
The seal of the Association is awarded annually to the authors of the
most distinguished contributions to Judaica reference published in the
preceding year. The first AJL Judaica Reference Award was given in 1984.
In some years, a special body-of-work citation is given as well.
